Eligibility

The Fellowship Scheme is open to existing research staff working in the School of Life Course & Population Sciences, who have continued financial support from King’s College London for the duration of the Fellowship.

In order to apply, you must have permission from your manager at time of application to take time out of your current research and teaching activities.

Scope

The RDS London Fellowship scheme provides an opportunity for you to spend 1-2 days per week over a six-month period working as part of the RDS London team.

Following a period of co-reviewing grant applications with experienced RDS advisers (likely 6-8 weeks), you will be expected to take the lead and case-manage requests for support for the remainder of your time within the scheme. We provide feedback to our clients through online discussions and written summaries.

You will be expected to attend fortnightly team meetings on Thursday afternoons (currently online), and will have an opportunity to get involved in outreach activities (such as drop-in sessions and funding stream events).

Funding

Each Fellowship will cover the cost of part-time employment between 0.2FTE and 0.4FTE for a six-month period, plus any costs associated with travel to RDS London opportunities.

Management

Successful Fellows will be required to submit a report to the RDS at the end of the Fellowship. Financial reimbursement of the grant from which the Fellow was seconded will take place following completion of the award.

Application criteria and selection

Applications for the scheme will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • the potential for you to undertake high quality research in your future career
  • the extent to which the Fellowship will enable you to develop relevant skills and experience in all aspects of preparing high quality grant applications
  • the extent to which the Fellowship will support your wider professional development
  • the impact the Fellowship will have on your professional development, career and trajectory.

Applications will be reviewed by a panel comprising members of the School Executive Committee and the RDS London leadership team.

The selection and subsequent management of the Fellowship will be administered by RDS London, and the outcome will be announced at the end of February 2022

Successful applicants will be expected to take up their offer of the award at the beginning of March 2022.
