RDS London has just launched a pilot Public Health Researcher in Residence initiative, which aims to expand our expertise in public health and embed an expert with experience of applied Public Health research and local knowledge within our team of research advisers.

We are very pleased to announce that Dr Hiten Dodhia, Lambeth Council Consultant in Public Health, will join us in this post for an initial period of six-months.

Hiten will work closely with RDS London advisers and will co-review public health proposals, so the team can increase their understanding of issues encountered in public health and local authority research.

Hiten will also provide direct feedback on public health research proposals, allowing RDS London to offer greater expertise to teams that approach us for advice on public health research.

By using his local knowledge and links, Hiten will also help promote NIHR funding opportunities within public health networks, as well as raise awareness of the full range of support RDS London provides to applied health, public health, global health and social care researchers.

RDS London Director, Peter Lovell said,

“We’re really looking forward to working with Hiten on this new initiative for RDS London.

“I’m sure that it will provide applicants with the support and additional insights that they need, and ultimately bring findings from well-designed research studies to bear on relevant public health policy and practice.”

Hiten said,

“I am really excited at the opportunity to pilot the Public Health Researcher in Residence initiative.

“I look forward to working with the RDS team and wider public health networks in London to support public health and social care research applications and to tap into the NIHR funding opportunities.

“I hope that this initiative can increase the collaboration between academia and practitioners on the ground supporting both mobilisation of established research evidence into practice and, through service evaluation, by creating new research evidence that is more relevant and more actionable for decision makers in local authority settings.”

As part of this initiative, RDS London will share public health-related resources. If you have any questions, please email us or fill in our Request support form.
